Here it is again, that yellow scarf of Sergei Bogart’s that I received as a gift from my mentor Ron Lucas. What luck to have gotten that! I always loved to paint a good still life. I usually just go into the room I store my stuff in and get something that inspires me at that moment. On this day, I went looking through the pile of fabric just to find the yellow scarf. That is where this painting begins. When I pulled it out It felt really elegant, but I wanted to make an arrangement that was more casual. So, I selected the jug next. After that it was just a matter of deciding what looked beautiful with the other things I was selecting. The cheese and bread I had to go to the store for. I just knew they would be the right thing. What fun it was to paint. Food has always been a main stay in painting still life. Symbolizing life-giving energy and beautiful in its own right, food is a necessity for life making a worthy subject.
